The Government's Food Strategy, some of which has been released today ahead of its publication on Monday, will include plans to promote vegan food in schools. This has been a long-running campaign for the Vegan Conservatives.
Prisoners are also likely to be offered vegan food, according to the report.
However, it has been criticised for not adopting the 30% meat and dairy reduction targets proposed by Henry Dimbleby's independent report last year. It does not include plans to tackle to increase in food prices, nor rising obesity rates, nor the climate emergency. All of these points can be addressed by setting supermarkets targets to reduce meat and dairy sales and increase the promotion of plant-based alternatives.
The report does however include a commitment to £270m invested in farming innovation to help drive up sustainability and reduce the dependence on food imports.
