Government drops Animals (Abroad) Bill

After being put on hold in May, following doubts about an outright ban on foie gras and using bear skin for military hats, Vegan Conservatives are disappointed to learn that the Animals (Abroad) Bill has been dropped and will not receive any more Parliamentary time.

The Conservative Manifesto of December 2019 included plans to end live export of livestock for fattening and slaughter, as well as a ban on importing hunting trophies.

The concern is that many of the issues championed by Lord Zac Goldsmith will now lose the spotlight in the upper echelons of Government, after Goldsmith was sacked during the Prime Minister's reshuffle.
